Modbury Photographs

We are very pleased to receive some old photographs of the Mitchelmore family from Mrs Connie Satterly of Bickington. Connie is directly related to both the Mitchelmore and teh Treeby family, who lived at Swanbridge Mill. The photographs included two photographs of their shop J C Mitchelmore & Son, which was a Drapers/Outfitters (the shop is now the Modbury Pharmacy) and a family portrait. Mrs Satterly has since passed three more historic photographs to us, one is a record of the judges and committee for the 1913 Modbury Show, the second is a photograph of a gatherine outside the Red Devon, including some French Sailors. The third and most intriguing, is of a group meeting outside the McIlwaith Hall (British School) witha title 'Passive Resistors Sale'. The History Society is currently attempting to identify the people in the photographs but also to determine the date it was taken and the reason for the title. Mt Mitchelmore who owned the shop features in many of the photographs.
